Rocky Mountain Nordic Wax Policy, 2025/26

All RMN races will follow the wax protocol outlined below. 

2025–26 RMN Race Schedule 

  • WPCC JNQ: December 20–21 
  • SSCV JNQ: February 7–8 
  • AVSC JNQ: February 21–22 
  • Mike Elliott Youth Festival (hosted by Durango): February 21–March 1 

Note: The SOHO Super Qualifier, hosted by IMD, will follow the IMD 2025/26 Wax Policy. Please have HS8 liquid available for Super JNQ – due to the IMD policy. 

Policy Overview 

All RMN-sanctioned events will adhere to the RMN Wax Policy, which was developed with the following goals in mind: 

  • Create a simple and affordable glide wax policy that supports the growth of RMN skiing. Level the playing field for teams and individual athletes by minimizing wax-based performance advantages. 

To achieve these goals, the following rules will apply to all age categories and all RMN events. Waxing Guidelines

No restrictions on: 

  • Ski grind 
  • Structure 

Kick Wax: 

  • Only non-fluorinated kick wax may be used. 

Glide Wax Selection 

Race organizers will select glide wax from the approved product list below: 1. Swix High HS5, HS6, HS8 Hard Wax 

Organizers will announce the selected glide wax via email to all registered clubs no later than 12:00 p.m., three days prior to each race. 

  • Example: For Saturday/Sunday races, the wax call will be communicated by 12:00 p.m. Wednesday (for Saturday) and 12:00 p.m. Thursday (for Sunday). 

Wax Application Procedures 

Swix HS5, HS6, HS8 Hard Wax: 

  • May be applied by iron or roller. 
  • No time restrictions on how long wax remains on the ski base (e.g., travel waxing is permitted) as long as skis are stored at room temperature or lower (no hotboxing). Skis should be scraped and brushed; there are no restrictions on brush type. 

○ Brush is defined as having bristles 

  • No fleece/wool/felt allowable

Additional Guidelines: 

  • Reapplication of glide wax allowed between the qualifier and the quarterfinals on sprint days. No reapplication allowed once the quarterfinals have started.
  • If applying base waxes, only products approved under the RMN Wax Policy may be used.
