Aspen Camp Wrap-up

Productive training happened last weekend in Aspen! What is productive training? It is training with a purpose, focused on a goal, with great energy and execution.

Sunday morning dawned cool and beautiful. We loaded up the vans to head towards Carbondale to skate rollerski back towards Aspen on the Rio Grande Trail bike path. The day quickly warmed up and layers were shed and tights rolled into knickers. We only had 1 near collision with an aggro cyclist on a TT bike, a few near crashes, and a solid battle with the pavement by Lauren Jortberg from Boulder. Aspen, Boulder, CRMS, Crested Butte, Durango, Summit, Steamboat, and Vail were all represented on this ski. 50+ rollerskiers at once was a very cool site to see.

Post-workout we replenished our glycogen stores and relaxed for the afternoon. Most athletes did homework or napped, some watched multiple episodes of Law & Order: SVU. We headed out for an afternoon run over Red Mountain, a spectacular point-to-point run just outside of town.

After the run, Boulder headed home over Independence Pass. There was a few inches of snow up there, which got them all excited for winter!

Monday morning was the 7th annual Maroon Creek Double Skate TT, where athletes ski a 2.6/2.2km uphill, then get shuttled down and ski it again. Tucker McCrery of Summit tied Noah Hoffman’s combined course record and Emily Hannah of SSWSC beat her own record set last year. Congrats to all who beat their best times and put in a solid effort!

Everyone left camp with a good weekend of training under their belts and fired up for the winter to come. Happy training!
